Re-chargeable Repairs - Frequently asked questions
Can I complete the repair myself?
What is a re-charge?
A re-chargeable repair is a repair that is required because of unauthorised alterations or damage to our property which is not the result of wear and tear. Examples include :
• Not keeping to an agreed appointment
• Losing keys and requiring contractors to gain access
• Not keeping your gas meter in credit which causes your boiler to fail
• Punching or kicking a hole in an internal door / breaking glazed windows / doors
Where a repair is the result of a crime being committed, you will not be charged for the cost of any works providing a police crime reference number is obtained. The crime reference number should be obtained BEFORE the repair request is made.
How much do I have to pay?
We will advise you of the full cost of the repair once we are made aware of the damage, and will ask you pay 10% before we carry out the repair. Payment of the balance will be collected by our Rent Team. On those occasions where not carrying out the work would result in either a health and safety or security risk, the works will be organised on the understanding that they are being carried out on a rechargeable basis.
How do I pay?
You will be sent a recharge payment card in the post, and can use it in the same locations as your rent payment card, as well as telephoning Allpay to make payment, or you can call to our Office to make the payment.
Can I appeal?
Yes. All appeals will be dealt with by following our Complaints procedure.
Can I complete the repair myself?
Yes. However we do reserve the right to inspect the completed repair and recommend and further works that may be required.
