Membership

Anyone who has an interest in the work of the Association may apply to be a member. Applications for membership are particularly welcome from tenants and representatives of the communities in which the Association works. Those admitted to membership each hold one £1 share in the Association. The members have ultimate control of the Association as they have the power to appoint the Board of Management and change the Rules of the Association, subject to certain constraints. No more than one third of the membership may be tenants.

The Association holds an Annual General Meeting (AGM) within six months of the end of its Financial Year and all members are given notice to attend under the Rules of the Association. The AGM is open to members of the public and the date and time of these meetings are widely publicised among tenants and other interested parties. At the AGM, members receive the past year’s Accounts, conduct elections to the Board of Management and appoint Auditors for the coming year.

Board of Management

The Board of Management direct the affairs of the Association. Its members are elected from the general membership of the Association who are drawn from a variety of occupations and backgrounds. The Association’s membership policy seeks to ensure that the Board, collectively, has the range of skills and experience required to conduct the affairs of the Association. The Board carries out an annual review of its performance, and publishes the details and outcomes of this process at the Annual General Meeting. The Board should consist of at least seven, but not more than fifteen, members. Details of the current membership are shown here.

The Board has recently reviewed its structure and now meets six times a year to conduct and control the business of the Association and delegates the authority to carry out this work through four Committees (Finance, Human Resources, Scrutiny, Customer and Property Services) which each meet at least three times a year and direct policy according to their terms of reference. The paid staff carry out the day to day work of the Association in accordance with established policies and within the parameters laid down in the structured Procedures, Standing Orders and Delegated Authorities of the Association. Board Members do not receive payment for their services.
